Andre Hyland sat down with me in his childhood home to give me a detailed description of how he got his Comedy Central pilot to go (listen up, kids, if that’s a goal), explain why playing himself can be harder than inhabiting one of his many characters, share my appreciation for ’80s movies, relate how he won over Bob Odenkirk, and punctuate his ever-flowing monologue with his idiosyncratic shout-outs and charming self-deprecation, wittingly dancing between committing to his assertions and ironically detaching himself from them.
